t2e trades first recovered paper contract

European Environment & Packaging News, November 9 2011

The UK's trading floor the Environment Exchange (t2e) settled its first recovered paper contracts at the end of last month.

Spot trade, two collected loads of old corrugated cardboard (OCC) at 110 a tonne, took place on 18 October and were settled on 31 October.

The recovered paper marketplace was launched in March this year, and since then has seen a growth in the number of members and bids and offers in the market. t2e already provides a transparent trading platform for packaging recovery notes (PRNs) and waste electrical and electronic equipment evidence notes (WENs), and this marketplace for OCC and old newspaper and pamphlets (ONP) is part of a two-year knowledge transfer partnership with Edinburgh Napier University.

Reflecting the current falling market price, the OCC spot market closed on 28 October. The price spread was £72-94 (€84-110) and bids totalled 4,400 tonnes.

Current market participants are: Aylesford Newsprint Ltd, Chas Storer Ltd, Cyclelink UK, International Forest Products (UK) Ltd, International Recovered Paper Ltd, J & A Young (Leicester) Ltd, Mark Lyndon Paper Enterprises UK Ltd, Newport CH International LLC Ltd, Palm Recycling Ltd, Peninsula Waste Savers Ltd, Reliance Fibres Ltd, and The Green House Total Waste Ltd.
