Industry figures have questioned the legality of a move by the EA
The EA first proposed the move in April, when it was accused of “punishing victims”. The measure also applies to the PERNs used for exports.
In a letter to the industry, the EA said notes could be deemed incorrect, “as a result of breaches of conditions of accreditation and/or offences committed under the regulations”.
An EA spokesperson said: "We have contacted customers to confirm that, as of 1 July 2021, we reserve the right to cancel PRNs/PERNs where we have evidence they have been issued incorrectly.
